Experimental Research on the Macroscopic and Microscopic Spray Characteristics of Diesel-PODE3-4 Blends

Polyoxymethylene dimethyl ether (PODE) is a low-viscosity oxygenated fuel that can improve the volatility of blended fuels. In this work, macroscopic and microscopic spray characteristics diesel-PODE3-4 under different ambient temperatures injection pressures (IP) are studied. The studied blends consisted pure diesel (P0), two blend fuels 20% (P20) 50% (P50) by volume fraction PODE3-4. Mie scattering Schlieren imaging techniques used in experiment. results show with increase IP, vapor phase penetration distance average cone angle three increased, Sauter mean diameter (SMD) decreased. When temperature projection area P20 P50 SMD decreased, but did not change significantly. indicate PODE3-4 has better than P0 at low temperature, hierarchy between > P50. Through visualization experiment, it helpful to further understand evaporation properties develop appropriate alternative fuel.
